Here come the "Swift Boat" attacks again! Apparently the republican philosophy is "If you can't win on merit, try character assassination”. John McCain is trying to portray Barrack Obama as a trifling bit of fluff that craves celebrity at all cost. He has used images of Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears as examples of people he thinks Obama is like. This need not be defended because if anybody in the United States could, after the last year imagine that this is anything other than a desperate attempt by a desperate candidate they clearly have not been paying attention. If you buy into this most recent Republican smear than you deserve 4 more years of “Bush league” leadership. Any way that what I think!

The oil companies profit has grown nearly 400% in the last four years but they (the oil companies) claim that it's not their fault! Of course the person claiming that makes 12 million dollars a year so his view may be influenced by all that money. It's about time our government stepped in and protected us. Gas is not a luxury item where the "Law of supply and demand” can be allowed to play out at the corporate direction, gas is a necessity to get to work, the kids to school even to buy food so why has it taken our government so long to even start asking questions? Maybe it has to do with our current President's post White House employment plans?

It is my fervent hope that the next president of the United States will in fact, return the offices of the president and vice president to their “proper” place in the government of our country and work to pass definitive laws that will keep future, “would be dictators” from ignoring the laws of the land they were elected to govern. Please, who ever is elected President, remember that a signing statement may not be used to exempt the executive branch from obeying that law, and no amount of security need preempts the need for judicial and legislative oversight. The Executive branch is only one of three equal branches of our government. A fact that our current president and vice president apparently are either unaware of or choose to ignore.

It doesn’t matter what you call it, a “surge” is a troop build up and aggressive interrogation technique equals torture. The bottom line for me is this, we, the United States are either the good guys or we are not! I want us to be the good guys because if we’re not we are just like all the nations we condemn and I want to be better than that. But, maybe that’s just me, maybe our country is really not better than that, maybe we are the bad guys, how else can you explain the number of government officials who can’t or won’t call torture, torture. We need to return to a state where we can hold our heads up international and say with pride we don’t do that, we don’t do that here and we don’t condone it anywhere. We need to conduct our selves ethically.

It does however, point out a mistake that a lot of voters make. A lot of voters vote emotionally, along gender or race or party lines and thats a mistake! There should be one and only one criteria for voting for any elected official, and that should be "I believe that he or she will do his or her best to perform in a manner that supports the laws under which our country was founded and will protect our freedom every moment they are in office. Thats what I think. OH by the way I fully support Obama!

The rats are deserting the sinking ship! That’s a good thing, because it makes it easier for congress to limit the damage this administration can perpetrate while still in office. That Gonzales was a flunky for the administration is so evident it need not be discussed; he thought his job was about increasing the president’s power, when, he of all people should have known his job, like every other government employee’s job, is to protect the rights and freedoms provided to the population by the constitution! Our forefathers divided our government into three parts to protect us from dictators, if each branch watches over the other and each needs approval from the other it protects us. For hundreds of years this worked just fine, then along came the Bush administration and in its alleged wisdom decided that the constitution was just a suggestion and the division of power that is at the bed rock of our government was wrong and that civil liberties were what the administration could take away when they pleased and that the laws of the land didn’t apply to them. Our president has repeatedly used his signing statement to say fairly bluntly that He can interrupt any law in any way he chooses. The Gonzales resignation is not about the first Hispanic Attorney General resigning, it’s about one more prop for a rogue regime being brought under control and the reduction to the threat level to our way of life.

The Democratic Congress caved, because they were afraid of being seen as “soft of terrorism” and gave in to what could possibly be called presidential terrorism. The executive breach of our government continually tries to curtail, suppress and deny our rights and civil liberties. Let us spy on you and we will protect you for attack, just give up a little more of your freedom and we will protect you from attack, just accept a little more repressive form of government and we can protect you from attack! But, who will protect us from the attack on our freedom and liberty, who will protect us from the man who would be king? I had hoped that the congress would, but they are all more worried about getting reelected than about the job they are suppose to do, it doesn’t matter the domestic spying without any judicial or congressional oversight is antithesis to the American Ideal of freedom, as long as they get reelected and their party remains in power. Congress is letting a couple of would be petty dictators redefine our government and how it is suppose to operate to suit they warped idea of power, because they are afraid.

What he does is sick and reprehensible but so far it’s not illegal and so must be considered free speech and must be protected by the laws of the land. It’s simple we can not allow situational enforcement of the laws of free speech. Because there are very few people I would trust to decide for me what is OK from a moral and intellectual stand point, remember censorship can be a sick and reprehensible act also. If he ever offers advice or how to kidnap or molest a child we should throw the book at him but for right now just watch him until he makes a mistake, watch him closely! Having said all that if I ever saw him in the park with his camera I might be tempted to, at the very least, speak quite sharply to him and leave it to him to explain to the doctors how his camera got there. Just my thoughts on this disturbing issue.

This is not the kind of thing I usually blog about, but in this day and age when our heroes are all to often entertainers and sports figures we need to occasionally see what a real hero looks like. So here he is folks, a genuine honest to God real hero! I know, it’s his job to be brave and I know he has been trained to walk through fire but as any one who has ever been in dire situations will tell you even the best trained, bravest individuals can break in the face of this kind of danger. He didn’t! He deserves to be proud and we should hold him up as a shining example of courage and bravery!

Is anyone surprised? I’m not, I’d bet Libby’s not! I’d bet the Vice President said it would be so and the President made it so. Libby got his freedom for being a good administrative lackey and keeping his mouth shut. These men, and yes, I hold more than just Libby guilty for the leak, endangered an agent for the federal government and not for any high purpose, but simply to punish her husband for publicly disagreeing with the president’s plans for Iraq. It’s just one more arrogant act for an executive branch that has always acted as if they were above the law and that the rules didn’t apply to them. Our President holds the processes that have allowed the United States to become the great country it is, in contempt. He does not respect the law, the governing processes, civil liberties or the American people why would anyone be surprised that he would further cheapen his Presidency with this commutation.

I guess that we all know that if you want to look like you've done something wrong all you have to do is fail to comply with a congressional subpoena and try to cover your failure with "executive privilege" and a lot of legalize that means "I don't want to and you can't make me". If you have nothing to hide you should welcome the opportunity to prove yourself. But, by this time you all know that I think the White house has a lot to hide. Oversight of the Executive breach is the right and the duty of every Congress and is part and parcel of the checks and balances that our forefathers, in their wisdom put in place to protect us the American people from politicians that would use their power to pervert the office they were elected to hold and the oath they swore. It has, in my opinion, never been more important for us to know that Congress is exercising its oversight duties, then it is today with our government in the hands of a few men who know neither the true meaning of duty or honor.

This is a very long article, but it does a good job of spelling out exactly what kind of a man sits in the number two spot of our country. He is a man who believes that torture is OK, that the ends justify the means, and that the morals of this country should be compromised because we are at war. He believes in secret prisons and conditional human rights, He believes that due process is a fiction that he can ignore, He believes in an executive monarchy that need not honor any new judicial and legislative restrictions and that should congress attempt to limit the Commander in Chief’s war making powers he has the right to disregard those limits. He believes that he and the president should be allowed to run the country any way they see fit.

It will not surprise any of my readers to know that I disagree! Can you believe that we, the world’s most active proponent of human rights would ever, ever need to debate the right and permissible forms of torture that our president can use? Our vice president thinks that water boarding, repeated near drowning, is a good dunking and a no brainer in his book. As an American I believe that torture can NEVER be justified, you can’t do something wrong no matter what your reason and have a good result. I believe that the executive branch of our government is and should be bound and controlled by the same checks and balances that have always protected us, the American people from would be dictators and politicians who have delusions of grandeur. While I agree that Congress should not be allowed to control a President during a war emergency the Executive branch should never have the power to ignore the directives of Congress unless a state of emergency exists.

I also think that Dick Cheney and I have very different ideas of what America and freedom and liberty should look like.

Once again our President has said he will use the power of his office and his party, to prevent science from helping Americans who desperately need help. Just to feed his Christian based megalomania he will veto a bill that has the clear support of the American people, the majority of congress and a true scientific potential to work miracles. He claims that this is so America does not fund the destruction of embryos. What does he thinks happens to all the unused frozen embryos that are the by product of the fertility clinics? In his tiny mind does he imagine them being forever preserved by the companies that make a living out of the TEMPORARY storage of embryos. They are not! Should the client stop paying for storage and not claim them they are destroyed. So the only thing the President’s veto will accomplish is to keep those embryos from being used to help people who could be cured by the research that could and should be done. The end result of his veto will be that these embryos, that will never become people anyway, will be destroyed and wasted.

What is wrong with the Republicans in Congress? How long will they blindly support this small minded, pseudo religious, ego maniacal man who sends thousands of America's young people into harms way, while fanatically protecting tiny, little bits of frozen protoplasm, to the detriment of the American people? Can you support Bush’s veto and still be true to your oath of office or am I naïve to believe that oaths given before God still matter to our politicians.

"Bush suffers court setbacks in war on terrorism"

This headline is wrong! The setback isn't about the war on terrorism. It was a setback in the President's continued attempts to restrict and control civil liberties and deny due process to people under the control of the United States Judicial system. This is the United States and we are supposed to be the good guys! And the man we should all look to for an example of how to defend liberty and Justice and the American ideal of fair play is the man leading the charge to take that away from us and believe me, if we let them do it to the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay; they’ll do it to us in the heartland next. If we don’t defend, loudly and with vigor every person’s rights, if we don’t stand up and say “You can’t do that, it’s wrong” then how can we expect someone else to stand up when they come to do it to us?

“"Once again, the courts have stepped in to rein in the executive and restore the rule of law," said Jennifer Daskal, U.S. advocacy director of Human Rights Watch.”

The courts are doing their part but the Congress and the American people must support them. We must not allow the erosion of the laws and processes that made this country great; we must stand and defiantly shout No! This is wrong! And you will not do it in my country!

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is
for good men to do nothing.”
--Edmund Burke—

I keep this quote on my computer to remind me how important every effort, no matter how small, to stand up for what is right and just is! If we allow them to do it to someone else it’ll be just that much easier for them to do it to us next!

This quote is from the on-line article below and it expresses a really deep problem with the American people. We want instant gratification fast cars, fast food and fast government. We fail to realize that if you build something complicated fast, if you fail to take in to consideration all the possible risks and ramifications you wind up with something shoddy and superficial instead of solid and dependable. Congress must work with in the system to return America to what it has been in the past and can be in the future. The thing I dislike most about Bush’s administration is their willingness to circumnavigate the checks and balances that are an integral part of our form of government.

What we should ask of our Congress is this, no matter what party, no matter what state you are from put first and foremost the needs and welfare of the American people.

Let me get this straight! After two drunk driving convictions, after being caught speeding, at night, with her lights off while driving with a suspended drivers license, this useless piece of fluff spends three days in jail and not in real jail but in a special part of the jail reserved for celebrities and than gets out! You have got to be kidding me! What medical reasons? Did the fact that orange was not her color cause her to cry herself sick? Did the fact that she had no toadies, servants or hangers-on to cater to her ever whim depress the little dear? She was sentenced to 45 days, which was reduced to 23 days for good behavior, what good behavior? How could she have demonstrated good behavior before she went to jail? Than she serves 3, just 3 days, although, for some unknown reason the cops are going to credit her with 5 days served, again, I don’t know why but they are giving her the 2 extra days and then she will be forced to spend the next 40 days confined to her multi-million dollar home where she will have every possible convenience and all her toadies, and servants and hangers-on not to mention the media to keep her company and to help keep, this her time of trouble from over whelming her, poor dear. If you or I did this we would have gotten a longer sentence and we would have had to serve it in a real jail with real criminals and real rules and we would have had to serve it all. How pathetic has of criminal justice system become when just because you’re a rich, celebrity you get a get out of jail free card. Paris can be glad that I’m not in charge because if I was she would spend as much time as anyone else would, in a real jail, probably with a cellmate named Bertha would at the very least regularly reassure her that she was cute.

The democrats are blowing it! They came to majority in an overwhelming manner and with a clear mandate from the American people. “Rein in the current president and his rogue regime”. What have they done? Has their grand plan for their first one hundred hours as a majority come to fruition? Have they fought the good fight and won? Have they fought the good fight at all? NO, they have run and backed down every step of the way. The only change that I can see is that now Bush knows that Congress will not fight, so he can do pretty much anything he wants. I won’t discuss the political clout the democratic party has thrown away, nor will I discuss the damage they are allowing to be done to our international reputation, I won’t even discuss the lives both American and Iraq that they are allowing Bush to sacrifice to his ego! But, I will say this, we the American people gave you our trust and so far you have misused it and failed us.

Without having seen this billboard I can't say whether or not I would be offended, whether or not the image would have offended me. I did see the other billboard they reference in this article the “Life is Short, Get a Divorce” billboard and while the sentiment it expresses was in my opinion in bad taste I didn’t think it was so offensive that the government should have required that it be removed. As I’ve said I have never seen this new billboard and if those people that want to control what other people see and read and think have their way I never will. So I will never get to make up my own mind about this issue, because some busy body and a government which apparently can’t read and enforce the current laws of the land will make that decision for me. Here is my question “Who would you trust to made decisions of taste and intelligence for you?” Would you agree that we should put a bra on the Venus De Milo, a fig leaf on the statue of Michelangelo, some people do, I think it silly but some people won’t go to a museum because you might see, Oh My God!, Church Lady protect us, Nudity! There just might be depictions of nudes; pictures and statues of folks that are buck naked, which we all know is much worse the just nude.

We as a country need to stand up and shout that we will not allow a small, vocal minority to dictate what is moral and acceptable for the United States. Ever the Supreme Court of the United States could not define what constitutes Smut or Pornography so to allow ever so impressive a group as “Cook County Officials” to make this call seem risky. Here’s what I think, if you don’t like what’s at the museum don’t go, if you don’t like the contents of a book don’t read it and if you don’t like a billboard Let the company or business that posted it know you don’t like it and that that will result in you not doing business with them, but don’t, please don’t try and make that decision for me or for anyone else.

No WMD, No ties to terrorists, No plan for post war Iraq, No exit plan and no intention of ending this ego created madness. Here is the bottom line Mr. Bush They don't want us there, we don't want to be there, our allies are all pulling out and it has cost us a fortune just to salve your ego. Its time to come home, if you really want to spread democracy how about trying it here, we’ve got some guys in our government that believe that the constitution is just a suggestion and that they are above the law.

However I would suggest that the segment that I included here is in error. The abortion issue is neither about the “interest of the woman” nor the “interest of the fetus” but about control plain and simple! There are groups in this country that want to dictate, to women, what they are allowed to do with their bodies. Don’t get me wrong, I think abortion is abhorrent but the concept of anyone telling someone else that they have to have a baby is an infinitely worse form of dictatorship. Now before anyone starts jumping up and down and yelling that God disapproves of abortion, this is not about God, this is about law. God may very well disapprove of abortion but that is between God and the person having the abortion, God is all about free will and I’m absolutely positive that God will deal with those that need punished when the time is right, although we might all be surprised at who gets punished. Anybody who claims to speak for God on this issue is lying and had better be careful because that must be a really big sin. In my opinion if you’ve never had a baby, if you’ve never been the victim of rape or incest, if you’ve never been a frighten, pregnant 16 year old or a pregnant poverty level mother struggling to feed the kids you already have, you are not really qualified to have an opinion on this issue. The next time someone from a pro-life group starts tell you about your obligation to the fetus ask them how many profoundly handicapped crack babies they have adopted. If they are raising 4 or 5 then maybe you can respect their opinion. You know what else bothers me, it seem that its always the same people, the same pro-life people that are also anti-sex education and birth control! So apparently their plan is to keep people ignorant, keep them from birth control and then punish them for their mistakes. What a good idea!

Raise your hand if you are gullible enough to believe that the BIG OIL COMPANIES are not profiting from the current enormous gas prices or that they just happen to have maintenance and repair issues at the start of the driving season. Why is the government so quiet about this? Why aren’t there investigations and probes and hearings? Why isn’t anyone protecting the little guy from the greed of the industry that provides this necessary commodity? Could it be that our government has lost touch with what it’s like to have to scratch for each dollar. If a candidate wants to impress me let them live on 30,000 for one year, let them pay rent, and feed their kids, and get to work, and provide for health care and all the things that normal people have to do, than I’ll believe that that candidate knows what it’s like when gas is at 3.50 a gallon and I’ll believe him when he says that there is nothing the government can do!

Unlike most of my postings, that are simply a comment on some news article, this one is about a question. What would constitute a “Win in Iraq”? I hear and read that the Bush Administration, some folks on capital hill, even some, just plain folks are saying that the U.S. must win in Iraq! If we don’t we’ll have all kinds of trouble both foreign and domestic in the future. Now I’m willing to admit that I don’t know all the answers so maybe they are right, maybe our military needs to keep fighting and dying to truly protect America. But, have you ever heard, just exactly what a “Win in Iraq” was? I know that when I got into a fight with another guy, the winner was the last guy standing; either he or I would get tired of getting up or tired of getting hit. When I played sports you won if you scored the most points. No matter what, you knew what you had to do to win and the next step after a win has always been the same after you win you go home and celebrate! In Iraq it seems that we have had a lot of wins, when Saddam fell we won, when he was captured we won, when they had a constitution we won, and when they had free elections we won. So my question is this, just exactly what do we need to do, accomplish or complete to finally “WIN”? The next time the press hears the word “Win in Iraq” from the president or the vice president they should make them explain exactly what that means so we can tell the Americans who are over there what they need to do to win, to move on to the next step, to come home, to celebrate, to live. And if they can’t explain exactly what a “Win in Iraq” is than they should admit their incompetence and not allow even one more life to be sacrificed for their ego!

I don't know anything about this case but what was written in this article. However if it is correct, then this is an over reaction by the police and the school. This boy did his homework, pure and simple. If the subject matter was questionable, than perhaps the teacher needs to be more exact in her assignment parameters. This was a work of fiction that was handed to a teacher, he didn’t post it on the internet or print copies to distribute at school, and he didn’t make any specific threats to or about any specific person or place, if his essay was that scary than the teacher should have had a talk with the boy’s parents, if it was really scary maybe to the school counselor, but not the police! The police should know better to consider charges in a case of non-specific threat; it can not be successfully prosecuted. The very definition of a crime requires a victim, if the boy specified no one in particular than there was no victim. If this student was under stress before and this essay was a cry for help than the school and the police used his cry for help as an excuse to bully and threaten him, which I sure will make him all better in no time.

If we are going to persecute people who write or depict violent things than we should create a list of authors and artists and even poets and start isolating them at the very least, Hummmm let see, Steven King, Roger Corman, Quentin Tarentino and a couple of hundred more I'm sure.

America has disappointed the rest of the world. The world had come to expect honor and fair play from America and our leader have proved to be partisan and self serving. In a time when we need to be very cognizant of the bigger worldview our President has, increasingly taken the position I don’t care what the world thinks, I don’t care what the world does and I don’t care what the American people think, I will do as I please. If America does not respect the world it is hard to expect the world to respect America. The 2008 election should and must be about restoring America to what it has always been a country that believes in truth beyond rhetoric and liberty protected by the rule of law. I’m not saying we should become a pushover and be governed by world consensus but we should stop abusing our position as first amongst equals and recognize that in this day and age no country, no matter how powerful, can afford to completely disregard the rest of the world. I can see that and apparently so can candidate Obama. Good for him.

You know it isn't the little guy, the nine to fiver, the regular Joe, the wage slave that is not paying his taxes, it's the wealthy, the powerful and the rich that have created this gap! I can't get away with not paying my taxes nor can you, but if you are wealthy you can lie to and cheat the government. No one in my neighborhood has an “off-shore account” or a high priced accounting firm to help them under report their income. Our big business government supports this behavior with tax breaks that could only benefit you if you were in the top 10% of the population, wealth wise and by passing an inheritance tax law that will let the spoiled rich spawn get out of paying any taxes on what they inherit once Daddy Warbucks has passed away. Who you may ask, eventually has to cover this gap? You and me, of course, the people that actually pay their taxes, that’s who and all the people who should protect us or at least be leveling the playing or should it be the paying field, are all on the other team, are all part of the rich, wealthy people with off shore accounts and accountants. Lets hire a couple of forensic accountants of our own and subject a couple of our lawmakers personal accounts to a fine tooth comb type review and see what we find and than how about doing the same to a couple of those 500 million dollar a year CEOs. It sounds like it would make a lot of people very nervous, but would by very illuminating for us little guys.

This man should not be allowed to have a public platform from which to speak. He has called a group of gifted collage athletes “nappy headed hos”. There are only two possible explanations for what he said, either he is a racist that has slipped up and revealed his true thoughts or he is just too stupid to be on the radio. I personally don’t think he’s stupid, I think that racism is at the core of this statement, I think that this is an example of a bigot that got so enamored of the sound of his own voice that he forgot that he was living in the 21st. century and that only those with sheets and hoods in their closets would tolerate a statement like that. While tolerant, intelligent people of any color would be morally offended by this statement! But, maybe, it’s possible that I’m being too hard on him, maybe he is just stupid, after all racial prejudice is stupid. However like the comedian said “You can’t fix stupid” and if you can't fix it you should not allow it on the radio. The people that run the network have a very clear choice to make they can either support what the ignorant man has said or they can do what they should have done three seconds after he uttered this filth and fire his ass. That’s what I think.

Tough talk from John Kerry, maybe if he had talked this bluntly during the election he would have won. The link below will take you to an article that talks about the President using recess appointments to sidestep the required congressional approval for political appointees. Even though congress has told him that 2 of these people were not acceptable for the positions he proposed them for, he went ahead and appointed them anyway, thereby proving that his contempt for congress is only exceeded by his contempt for the American people and our form of government. I think, that the president thinks, he rules the United States instead of leads it. I also think he has proved he is incapable of doing either with any degree of success.

This headline is misleading! This is not about burning a flag! It’s about arson and the willful destruction of private property! These young men burned someone else’s flag, on his front porch. It was not an act of protest but one of vandalism. In this country, you can burn an American flag, but you can not burn my flag. I personally find the act of burning an American flag distasteful but I am proud of the fact that in my country freedom takes precedence over symbolism. Vandalism on the other hand is or should be a negative act in anyone’s book, especially if you are a guest in the country where you commit it, as two of these men are. Anyway that’s what I think.

This kind of stuff just drives me crazy! Yes, I know, crazy, for me, is so close that I don't need to drive, I could walk, but as I watch the media once again blow something completely out of proportion I’ve got to wonder, if anyone other than me notices that the artist named this work “Blessing” and didn’t mention Christ at all. The media said the statue was “wearing Christ’s robes” but when you look at the statue it’s clear that the statue is wearing a white dress shirt and a necktie under what looks to me like choir robes, I'm pretty sure I've never seen Christ depicted as wearing a shirt and tie. The bottom line here is that Obama didn’t pose for it, Obama didn’t commission it, and the artist never said that it was meant to depict Obama as Christ. But, even if he had, that’s his right in this country; here we are free to express ourselves as we please! So let’s not crucify Obama over this! Pardon the pun.

They will have rejected the offer.” By Alex Johnson Reporter MSNBC

Congress should reject this generous offer! I reject it, you should reject it, and the entire population of the United States should stand up in mass and loudly reject it! Here’s the thing, our government was set up with three branches that act as checks and balances for each other. Our forefathers were smart enough to know that men are fallible and need to have some one to hold them accountable for what they do. It is Congress’ job to over see what the Administrative and Judicial branches do. Congress has the power and the duty to subpoena anyone they choose to. If you or I were subpoenaed by Congress and did not comply we would go to jail until the courts decided the validity of the subpoena. That is what should happen and that is what should happen to anyone who defies a Congressional subpoena. I think President Bush has lost sight of what his job is, his job is not to gain power for the Office of the President, it is not to gain power for the Republican Party and it is not to gain power for George W. Bush. When he took office he swore to protect the Constitution and the American people and that is his job! If this had been his top priority, his passion and he had merely failed I could forgive him but I believe that defending us and our constitution isn’t even on his top ten list. The fired Prosecutors served at the pleasure of the President. Mr. Bush would do well to remember that he serves at the pleasure of the American people.

It’s about time that Congress lived up to its promise to dragging the Bush Administration into the light. If the Administration has done nothing wrong they should welcome the opportunity to prove it. Only if their acts were not above board, would they be afraid to testify under oath. Congress must put an end to stealth government! This is the United States, here nobody is above the law and our rules should apply to every American starting with the President.

This is just one more example of the administration's complete disregard for due process. From the president on down, a lot of our national government seem to think that they can do pretty much as they please and not concern themselves overly much about anything as petty as the law or civil liberties. So what if the law indicates that our activities are illegal, so what if we violate your civil rights. We will protect you from terrorists and other bad guys. My question is who will protect us from our government? Ben Franklin said once “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”

I think Mr. Obama acted very reasonably, all things considered. He approached this in a very moderate and law-abiding manner and I respect him for it, because it shows a level of restraint I my self would not have been able to achieve. If this had been me, I would have found this guy and taken my 38 inch Louisville slugger baseball bat and broke every bone in his body, and then I would have started hurting him in earnest. This is in all probability what Mr. Obama wanted to do also but could not.

This find, book and movie all beg a simple question of Christians, is your faith based on the miracles that Jesus performed or the beauty, logic and truth of his teachings? If it was only his miraculous life that drew you to your religion than maybe you should start again reading his teachings and this time try to find the message of peace, joy and tolerance that is the real miracle at the core of his teachings.

There is a bunch of things in this article worth talking about, not the least of which is that our government is doing it’s usual job of trying to discredit the report rather than trying to improve it’s performance, but let's focus on just one statistic “The U.S. was second to worst, behind only Hungary, for its infant mortality rate of 7 per 1,000 births. The rate, a standard indicator of children's health and prenatal care, is under 3 in Japan.” I chose this stat because it is an incontrovertible fact not subject to spin. The wealthiest nation in the world, the country with some of the best medical facilities on the planet, the government that can give billions in foreign aid and spend billions on war finished almost dead last in saving its most helpless citizens! I guess the real question here is what is our focus and what will we, as a country do now that our collective noses have been rubbed in the fact that, if it takes a village to raise children, our is not a good village to be born in to.
